I am trying to create floating candle centerpieces using orchids with the medium size cylinder vases. I bought a 3″ floating candle but it began to sink down on one side! How can I avoid this without the water being so low that it makes the centerpiece look bad? Also whats the difference between floating candles and floating disc candles; does the round bottom help it float better? The candle also burned out really quick as well as the water coming over it, so I would not recommend purchasing one from Hobby Lobby.
Look for candles that are labeled for floating. Bed Bath and Beyond or Lotions and Potions or Pier One. Try putting 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in the water before putting the candle in. The oil will help support the candle.

if you have you ever heard of *burning* off the umbilical cord, can you clue me in?
i was reading thru info about a birthing center & it said to bring “2 Taper beeswax candle if planning to burn off the umbilical cord.” This is the first time i’ve ever heard of such a thing. i’m curious. it doesn’t seem like a good idea to me, but i don’t know anything about it other than what i just heard.
anyone have any info about this?

just did a quick search and found that many people in Asian countries cauterized a cord by holding it over a candle and burning it. The couple read that it is what they are doing in Thailand now to lessen infections from cut cords. It healed really quickly.
I have searched on here and not found any reference to this being done. I did see a couple posts about cauterizing with silver nitrate, but nothing about burning.
